My First Designer Bag Purchase

It was something I thought about for quite a while. Now and then I searched online and dream about different designer bags. The classics: Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, YSL. I always thought if I was going to invest, it would be a black bag that would "go with" everything.

One day, I saw the most amazing Gucci Marmont bag, in a teal green/turquoise colour online. The bag looked stunning and in a very unusual colour. It was velvet and had gold hardware. It was just the most beautiful bag, and it was completely sold out.

I looked on Vestiaire Collective, and it was all sold out also. This bag was playing hard to get! At the time, it was just a dream and I never actually thought about a realistic purchase.

Fast forward a few months later, and I was sitting in Heathrow airport. I looked up at the screen to check my flight details, and it was delayed by TWO hours. It had been a long day and a long week of work, so I was feeling sorry for myself. I looked up, and a Gucci store was right in my eye line. I decided to browse and thought no one would ask me if I needed help. When I walked into the shop, I saw all of the leather Gucci Marmont bags.

The shop assistant was looking after a group of customers and turned around to say "If you would like to look at anything let me know". She was busy, so I continued browsing. Suddenly another shop assistant appeared, smiled and said "Would you like to look at any of the bags" and I replied with "Well there is a bag I am love with, but I don't see it on the shelves, and it is sold out everywhere." She asked which one so I described it. She said that there might be one left, opened a drawer and there it was in all its glory. Turquoise, velvet, with gold hardware. The beautiful gold chain strap.

At this point, I knew I was in trouble because a) I didn't expect the sold out bag to be there b) my flight was delayed so I had loads of time c) the bag was more beautiful in real life!

It is quite an investment, so I took my time and asked to see other bags. We compared the black leather, black velvet and pink velvet in different sizes up against the one I really wanted. I knew leather would wear better but this bag was just so unusual I knew it would be difficult to find anything like it.

While there were a lot of factors involved, I save money every month for the future, and sometimes you just have to treat yourself in the present!
